Science Finally Confirms Which Are Better Pets: Dogs Or Cats

Written by the Providr.com editorial team

This is the debate that has long divided animal lovers: who makes better pets: cats or dogs? But have no fear that we can now officially settle the debate with science.

To settle the debate, scientists compared the increase of the ‘love hormone’ oxytocin in both cats and dogs after playing with their owners. ‘Oxytocin is one of the chemical measures of love in mammals’ Dr. Paul Zak, who conducted the study of the BBC2 documentary ‘Cats vs. Dogs’.

He then continued: ‘Humans produce the hormone in our brains when we care about someone. For example, when we see our spouse or child the levels in our bloodstream typically rise by 40-60 per cent.

Incredibly, the results show oxytocin increased by an average of 57.2 percent in dogs. Cats were clawing behind at just 12 percent.
