In an incident that has raised concerns, a leopard entered a residence in Mungsare village of Nashik district on Sunday night and attacked a pet dog. CCTV footage of the incident, shared by news agency ANI, shows the wild animal entering the residential area as a black dog – wearing a red collar – jumps up in surprise and tries to confront it.

The leopard attacks the dog. In the footage, the leopard could be seen running away after confronting the barking dog. Although the video is not very clear, it seems that the wild animal abducts the dog in its jaws in scary footage.

The video has over 65,400 views on Twitter and user reactions are causing concern. Speaking to ANI, Deputy Forest Conservator Pankaj Garg, Nashik called on locals to “stay indoors at night as leopard activity has increased in the area.” “People need to stay alert,” Garg added.

This is not the first time leopards have entered residential areas in Nashik. In March, a 55-year-old woman was killed after being attacked by a leopard in the Igatpuri Taluka area, which is a wildlife corridor in the district.

In June 2021, CCTV footage from Bhuse village showed a leopard carrying off a sleeping dog outside a house.

With the reduction of forest areas, wild animals have invaded human dwellings in search of food.
