Buyers pay $ 400,000 bounty to lock down Newtown school grounds

Expats living in Hong Kong were among those bidding for a top-notch home in Newtown that shattered hopes of a $ 3 million auction price.

The intensity of competition in the high-end of the Geelong market helped shatter price hopes of $ 3 million for a top-notch home in Newtown that has garnered international attention.

Expats living in Hong Kong were among the three bidders who pushed the price of the massive four bedroom, four bath to 212 Noble Street $ 400,000 above expectations in Saturday auction.

But Hodges, Geelong West agent Marcus Falconer, said it was buyers closer to home who secured the 1,045m² property in the heart of the Newtown private school compound for 3.4 millions of dollars.

He said the former residents of Geelong, who currently reside in Melbourne, had only virtually inspected the house but understood the value of the location.

“Their father made an offer on their behalf and they were looking online and giving instructions, so this was another sight sold property,” Falconer said.

“Originally, being born and raised in Geelong, schools were the main driver. “

St Joseph’s College, Geelong College and Sacred Heart College are all within walking distance of the three-level raised house which offers stunning views of the grounds of Queens Park.

The auction opened at $ 2.75 million as a Sydney buyer also entered the race.

The new owners will be able to experience it by the resort-style pool or in one of three living areas, including a game room with a wet bar that opens to a north-facing patio on the lower level.

The house also includes a renovated kitchen with top of the line appliances, a master bedroom with a luxury bathroom and walk-in closet and a dedicated children’s wing upstairs.

“A lot of people want to bring their families into schools in this area and find a four bedroom, four bathroom house within walking distance so their children can walk to school,” Mr. Falconer.

“It’s very rare to find.
