A fearless Alaskan woman has been praised after she rescued a possum that strayed into a New York bar.
The incident happened late last month when Temkin’s Bar in Brooklyn’s Greenpoint neighborhood was packed with customers on a Thursday night. At one point, a wild opossum entered the Brooklyn bar and sent the crowd into a frenzy.

Customers’ cries can be heard in a now-viral video that captures the moments after the confused marsupial found itself inside the establishment.

While nearly all of the patrons stood back and watched, perhaps mistakenly fearing rage, Sara Fulton of Alaska rose to the occasion and took matters into her own hands.

She walked straight in, unflinchingly scratched the opossum like a house cat, and strode out of the bar to pick up the wild animal and set it free.

Footage recorded by Chris Egan shows Fulton calmly approaching the opossum and grabbing it by the scruff of the neck.

Fulton is no stranger to encountering wild animals.

“I’m from Alaska and used to go camping with black bears hanging around my campsite,” she told NBC New York. “I think it was just instinctive, I just went up to him and said, ‘Hey, I know you’re scared’…and I was like, ‘Okay, I think I’ll just gag you and take you out because that would be the least painful for you,” Fulton recalled.

The woman is now called the hero of this night.
