COASTAL rowers from Musselburgh received ‘three cheers’ as they prepare to travel to the Netherlands to compete in the world championships.
Members of the Eskmuthe Community Rowing Club are sponsored by Lothian-based Stewart Brewing, who provided all members attending SkiffieWorlds 2022 with a t-shirt.
This is the second Coastal Rowing World Championship the club has competed in and the first to be held outside the UK.
The first rowers set off for the Netherlands on Wednesday, towing their boat Steedie Falconer, named after a former fishmonger from Fisherrow, and are excited to take part in the event. The races take place in Kortgene, in the southwest of the Netherlands, from Monday to next Saturday (July 2).
Regatta Captain David Lee said: “It’s a huge tournament and over 60 clubs will be racing at Kortgene.
“We are delighted to bring 29 rowers to the event to represent Musselburgh and Fisherrow.”
Eskmuthe was formed in August 2013 and its two boats, Honesty and Steedie Falconer, are based in Fisherrow Harbor and can often be seen in local waters, and also travel for competitions and other rowing events in Scotland and around the north of England.

During the lockdown, the club held a beer tasting Zoom event featuring a selection of Stewart Brewing beers.
“One of our members, Craig Scotland, is head brewer at Stewart and suggested he host a beer tasting party during the pandemic,” club chairman Gaynor Allen said.
She added, “We all collected the beers and had a wonderful online event that everyone loved.
“Stewart Brewing then supported a fundraising marathon organized by the club to raise funds for our boathouse project – then offered to sponsor our t-shirts. We are delighted to be associated with Stewart Brewing as a successful local business – and hope this continues.
Jo Stewart, co-founder of Stewart Brewing, said: “Coastal rowing is a great sport for people to get involved in, both competitively and for recreation.
“We are proud to sponsor Team Eskmuthe at the World Championships and wish all the local teams good luck heading to the Netherlands.”
Stewart Brewing is an independent craft brewery based in Loanhead, Midlothian, and was established in 2004 by Steve and Jo Stewart. It produces beer in small batches which are available in around 200 pubs in Edinburgh, Lothians, Fife, Borders, Glasgow and Newcastle.
