Yorkie saves baby girl from coyote in Toronto, Ontario: video

TORONTO, Ontario – Filmed: A small dog proved his bravery protecting his 10-year-old owner from a coyote in Toronto.

A Yorkshire Terrier, a breed that typically weighs 5-7 pounds, has caught a wild animal several times its size, CTV News reported.

Lily Kwan cried out for help while pulling her 6 year old Rescue Yorkie by her leash. A coyote was chasing them, attacking his dog, Macy.

The 10-year-old had recently seen warnings that a coyote was chasing children in the neighborhood.

“I thought to myself, am I next, what’s going to happen to me?” Kwan said.

She said she had to drop the leash because Macy wouldn’t follow her.

“I ran to the sidewalk and started screaming for help; no one heard me,” Kwan said. “I just saw this coyote trying to attack my dog. I tried ringing on people’s doors and knocking on people’s doors; this neighbor actually let me in.”

What happened next was captured by home security: you can see Macy turn around and confront the coyote, protecting Kwan.

“He’s a super brave dog; I love him so much, and I just thought this little dog could protect this huge human being, trying to fight this huge coyote,” Kwan said.

Macy is in the local vet’s intensive care unit and undergoing surgery to treat several puncture wounds from the wild animal.

Kwan’s mother was away, but saw the video.

“My dog would do anything for our family, so I’m not surprised she did that,” said Dorothy Kwan.

She said she was shocked at the daring of the coyote.

They said there were coyote sightings in the neighborhood, but the wild animals are tracked with electronic collars.

Dorothy Kwan said she was frustrated that no one would set them up, but that she is lucky Macy survived and protected her daughter.

“She’s our little heroine,” she said.

Macy the Yorkie is expected to make a full recovery.
